On the occasion of the recent cooperation at the public installation ‘Bridge’, Arnout Van Vaerenbergh (Gijs Van Vaerenbergh) and Rolf Vansteenwegen (Util) will lecture in tandem. Both lecturers are graduates of the KULeuven. However they took a different professional path afterwards. Util is a structural engineering office that assists designers in the development of architecture and art projects. The office tends to look for structural solutions that are consistent with the architectural concept or that may even emphasize it. Gijs Van Vaerenbergh designs site-specific installations, sculptures and buildings. The installations of Gijs Van Vaerenbergh will trace back forms that coincide with the structure. For that reason, the interaction with the structural engineer is essential for the design process of such projects. Gijs Van Vaerenbergh and Util will talk both about the key project ‘Bridge’ in order to illustrate the dialogue between designers and engineers and the impact of this interaction on the final result.
